Adding a Tweet Box for Call to Actions

Social media is absolutely vital in today’s day and age.  However, it is not enough that you tweet and post about things – you need to get your followers to also post about them.  One way of doing this is to encourage readers of your WordPress blog or site to Tweet about the site.  That is why many people include a call to action button somewhere on each page that allows readers to quickly share the article on Facebook or tweet it to their followers on Twitter.

This WordPress tutorial will show you how to add a call to action box to each article on your Word Press site.  In this tutorial, the box will appear in the corner on the right side, but you can change that if you wish.  The box will appear as a floating button when the reader scrolls all the way to the bottom of the blog.  This means it should not irritate them while they read most of the article – instead, it will simply remind them that they have the option to Tweet the article after they finish reading it.

Step 1

First, you will need to download and install the Tweet Prompt Box plugin.  This plugin allows you to quickly and easily create the call to action box.  It is free to download, and installation only takes a few minutes.

Step 2

Go to Settings, then Tweet Prompt Box.  Now you can customize the box as you see fit.  You can change what the call to action box says and decide if you want to use the light or the dark theme – the light theme is white and light gray, while the dark theme is black.  Pick the one that best fits your WordPress theme.  Be sure to save your changes after you have finished.

Step 3

Check to make certain that the plugin appears on each page (randomly check pages if your WordPress site is large).  Also, make certain that it does actually send the link to Twitter with the correct text.  If possible, have several people test this for you.

Why Twitter?

Twitter is currently one of the most popular social media platforms. Posts can be seen by thousands of people every day, making it possible to quickly make one of your WordPress posts go viral.  While tweeting your articles gets them out to all of your followers, it does not reach those who do not follow you on Twitter.  By adding this button to your WordPress site, you make it possible for anyone who visits your blog to retweet an article.  It is a great way of reaching new people.

Note that the Tweet Prompt Box is just one plugin that makes it possible to create calls to action.  There are others, including WordPress Calls to Action that give you more options.  WordPress Calls to Action is available from the official WordPress site and can be used to create pop ups that do more than just Tweet your articles – they can be used to connect directly to a shopping site, for example.
