DreamHost announced on its Twitter account it had scheduled a conference for the beginning of August (2013). The company is promoting the conference under the name of DreamCon.
The organisation described the conference as a two-day session offering intense debate and the opportunity for customers to speak directly to the people creating and maintaining their service packages. Eventbrite is selling conference tickets for the event in Los Angeles. Super early bird tickets are on sale for $40, with regular admission rising to $80.
The agenda for the conference, and any potential guest speakers, have not been released as of yet. However, DreamHost did reveal the majority of the seminars would have one of their employees leading it. Observers predict this conference will follow the format of Parallels and cPanel in the way they run their conferences.
DreamCon is an entirely new invention. Customers have reason to get excited, though, because the company has experience in running such outreach events. The ‘Reach Out and Touch You Tour’ from last year is a significant example of this. It also hosted a number of OpenStack meetings throughout last year.
The only information DreamHost has given on the conference at the moment is users should expect some special guest stars to make appearances. They did not speak about what capacity any guest stars would have at the event. It could involve leading seminars, lectures, or even just making a minor appearance.
This latest move from the company is significant for clients. It is rare for web hosts to host in-person events where clients can offer feedback in a full and frank manner. It’s a departure from the web conferences and anonymous feedback forms offered by the majority of web hosts. If all goes well this could increase DreamHost’s stock considerably.
