Last month web hosting giant GoDaddy announced its Super Bowl XLVI advertisements had successfully cleared censors. Yesterday (December 20, 2011) they gave us a little hint of the content of one of those ads, letting it be known that the company’s cloud services will be featured in a typically edgy GoDaddy commercial featuring Danica Patrick. Although GoDaddy has been offering cloud services for some time, the ads mark the first occasion when they have marketed them to such a wide ranging audience.
Although details of the ad have not been disclosed GoDaddy has revealed it will have a “divine” theme and feature Ms. Patrick’s most revealing moment ever. There’s also reportedly a dance sequence which could possibly set the bar for new GoDaddy commercials in the future. Featured in the ad with Danica Patrick are the new Pussycat Dolls, while fitness guru Jillian Michaels appears in a second spot along with Patrick and an unnamed supermodel.
“How can we produce a Super Bowl ad that’s fun, edgy, slightly inappropriate and also speak to cloud-based products?” prompted Executive Chairman Bob Parsons during his official remarks. “Like only GoDaddy can … trust me, it’ll be as GoDaddy-esque as ever. Danica will surpass her most revealing GoDaddy moment, from back in 2008 when she gave us the big unzip!”
GoDaddy has been advertising during the Super Bowl for eight years running using commercials that often push the envelope. But regardless of individual opinions, statistics have shown a measurable spike in GoDaddy.com traffic immediately following the ads every year. And since that’s the point, Parsons and his company are unlikely to change their tactics anytime soon.
