How to Add Google Calendar to Your WordPress Website

Calendars are one of the most valuable tools on computers and smartphones, and can be used to great effect on WordPress to keep track of important events. There are many calendars available for WordPress; however, Google Calendar is the best. It is simple to use and can be synced across all your devices so that you never miss an occasion.

In the article, we will show you how to easily add this functional calendar to your website.

Creating a Google Calendar

If you have a Gmail account, you will already have the Google Calendar as a standard feature. If not, you will need to sign up for an account in order to get started. You can do this free here.

Log in to your Google account and click on the link for Calendar from the top navigation bar. In your Calendar, scroll down to My Calendars from the left sidebar, click on the arrow and select Create New Calendar.

Give your new Calendar a name and Time Zone and decide how it should be shared (public or private). Choose an appropriate setting from Permission Settings and click on Create Calendar.

Creating the Embed Code

With your Google Calendar created, you will need to create an embed code so that you can add it to your WordPress site.

Note: The following steps can also be taken if you have an existing Calendar you wish to use.

Go to My Calendars > Settings from the left sidebar (settings can also be accessed by clicking the gear at the right side of the page) and select Shared: Edit settings.

Check the box to make the Calendar public and click on Save.

Next, from the top navigation bar click on the Calendar Details link, review the settings under Auto-accept invitations and choose the one that is best suited to you.

You will now see the embed code displayed in the Embed This Calendar box – copy it. If you would rather customize your Calendar, click on the Customize link and configure the settings according to your preferences. When you’re done, click on Update HTML and copy the new code.

Embedding the Calendar in WordPress

Your Calendar is now ready to be added to WordPress, so log in to your dashboard and go to Posts > Add New or Pages > Add New (depending on how and where you want to display your Calendar). You can also embed the Calendar in an existing post or page if you prefer.

In the Text Editor, simply paste in the embed code and click on Publish (or Update in existing posts and pages)

That’s it. All done. You now have your very own WordPress Google Calendar to display the latest information from your website.
