How to Create a Video Gallery in WordPress with Rio Video Gallery

In the past, we have talked about how to add YouTube and Vimeo videos to your WordPress posts – it is as simple as inserting a URL or embed code. However, adding videos to your content in this way might not always be suitable, particularly if your site is video-heavy.

If video is a central part of your content, you are probably going to want to showcase them in a different way so that it’s easy for visitors to find and view them in one place. The best way to do this is by creating a video gallery.

There are tons of options in the WordPress directory to help you do this, but the one we recommend is Rio Video Gallery.

Rio Video Gallery

Rio Video Gallery is a fantastic option that lets you create a visually appealing gallery without any need to mess around with code. The plugin makes embedding YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion videos simple and you can be up and running in minutes.

Creating a Gallery

After installing and activating Rio Video Gallery, the plugin will add a new menu option below comments in your WordPress dashboard.

To get set up, go to Video Gallery > Settings and chose how you would like to set up your gallery – number of videos, post order, video size, gallery layout, etc.

At the bottom of the settings page, you will notice a shortcode – this is the code you will need to create your gallery.

When you have configured the options to suit your preferences, click on Update options and go to Pages > Add New to create a page for your video gallery.

The shortcode for your gallery can simply be pasted in the content editor field.

You will not be able to upload videos from your local computer using this plugin, so if you have any videos stored on your own server, you will need to upload them to YouTube, Vimeo or DailyMotion first.

Adding a New Video

Adding a video to your gallery is quick and easy, and can be done by going to Video Gallery > Add New.

Here you simply need to select the post order or your video, choose the provider and enter the video ID.

In YouTube, the Video ID is the part after ‘v=’ in the URL. As bolded here:

In a Vimeo video, the ID is the string of numbers in the URL:

In a DailyMotion video, the ID follows /video/ in the URL:

Once you completed the options, click on Publish to add the video to your gallery.

And that’s it! You now have your very own WordPress video gallery!
