RackSpace has made a major change with the appointment of Ajit Melarkode as its managing director in the Asia-Pacific region.
This is a long awaited appointment as Jim Fagan resigned from the role in 2012. The company has held off on appointing a new managing director so it could properly consider the candidates. It considers this region a major building block in its global growth strategy, so observers expected the appointment to take longer than usual.
Mr. Melarkode is an IT veteran with over 20 years of experience within the industry. Initially, he began his long career as an equities analyst, before entering the investment world. As a major investor within IT companies, he went on to hold a number of prominent roles in various IT organisations; one of these companies included EDS.
Previously, Mr. Melarkode resided in the UK whilst working at Synechron. His 18-month stint at the company ended recently and he will now relocate to Hong Kong to take up this new position with RackSpace.
Mr. Melarkode released a statement on the new appointment, “RackSpace is experiencing healthy demand across the region, and there is a huge amount of untapped potential as businesses look to expand globally.”
In his statement, he also spoke of his enthusiasm about working with various figures and branches in New Zealand, Australia, and Asia.
He will take control over the whole of the Asia-Pacific region. Representatives like the managing director for Australia, Mark Randall, will report directly to Mr. Melarkode.
RackSpace has clearly put a lot of faith into this appointment. Industry analysts expect this to give the company a significant advantage as North American web hosting companies aim to thrive in this region. With an excellent track record in his 20-year career, the new managing director will undoubtedly become an asset to the company.
