RackSpace has paraded the newest addition to its global operations. Alan Perkins is a pioneer in the cloud computing industry and has taken the position of Director of Technology and Products for the Asia Pacific region.
Perkins is tasked with adopting and developing the latest RackSpace solutions for the Australian market.
RackSpace admitted that they chose Perkins because of his experience in leadership and his vast knowledge of the industry. Before arriving at RackSpace, he served as the chief information officer for Altium, a software company that he worked with for a total of seven years. His position gave him complete control over the adoption of new technologies and services for cloud computing platforms.
Perkins said it was vital that RackSpace invested in the Australian market in order to drive open cloud innovation forward. This action would gain the company a foothold and allow it to become a major player in the region.
The appointment comes after the organisation opened a new data centre in Australia, as well as with the announcement of rapid growth within the region.
Mark Randall, the country manager for New Zealand and Australia said of the appointment, “Alan is widely regarded as a visionary. He comes with a huge reputation as a cloud pioneer, with over 20 years’ experience in systems analysis and design.” He continued to emphasise his importance by saying, “At a time when cloud and hosting decisions are becoming increasingly important to business, it gives us tremendous confidence to know that we’ve got someone of Alan’s diverse experience, leadership skills, and deep knowledge of technology on board.”
Perkins has been widely recognised as a pioneer within the industry as he was named as a top 10 finalist in the IDC Asia Pacific CIO of the Year awards and has also taken a leading role in the deployment of major cloud computing initiatives.
